Eligibility · the four DTV doors

One visa. Four doors. The door you choose decides the file.

The DTV looks like a single visa from the outside. From the consul's desk it is four. Each pathway has its own evidence burden, its own approval rhythm, and its own way of being filed under the wrong category. Picking the right door is the work that matters before the paperwork starts.

Each pathway, in its own terms.

The four pathways were designed by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to reach distinct audiences. Each carries a different evidence test. Read the one that fits, then click through to the deep-dive page for the full file requirements.

Pathway
Typical applicant Senior remote employee or established freelancer with twelve months of income history. Muay Thai fighter, cookery student, traditional medicine learner enrolled at a recognised school. Patient with confirmed Thai hospital treatment, or wellness programme attendee. Spouse, child under 20, of a primary DTV holder applying together or in sequence.
Headline evidence Employer or client letter 4 required lines Course acceptance letter syllabus + hours Hospital admission letter return-care plan Apostilled relationship document Thai translation
Hardest document The compliant employer letter — over half of self-filed letters miss the four required lines. An institution-issued syllabus rather than a marketing brochure. Many schools resist. A return-care plan from the home physician. Often takes a fortnight to obtain. The apostille and certified Thai translation of the marriage or birth certificate.
Approval timeline 10–18 working days, faster at Vientiane. 7–14 working days, faster than expected. 5–10 working days, the fastest pathway. 8–14 working days, normally aligned with principal.
Reapplication risk Moderate — income volatility year-on-year is the most-cited rejection cause. Low — once enrolled and progressing, renewals are simple. Variable — depends on whether treatment is ongoing at renewal. Tied to principal — if the principal renews cleanly, dependants follow.
